Thinking the theatrical experience begins when the lights go down and an image appears on screen is the wrong way of thinking. In today’s fast-paced, digital, streaming, and sensory overloaded world, the true theatrical experience should begin before the moviegoer leaves their home. The experience needs to begin early on with excitement, anticipation, and expectation. And then it’s time to make good on those promises at the theater, culminating with the lights going down and that image appearing on screen. This session will get into the mindset of what distribution and exhibition need to be thinking about and acting on so as to create that truly, one-of-a-kind motion picture theatrical experience.
10:30am – 11:30am

Data is the new oil, and whilst it is often spoken about as being the holy grail that must be cracked, exhibitors and distributors are still yet to come up with a workable solution that addresses who owns the data, who can use it, who pays for it, and how can the industry can universally benefit from the data. This session will look at some examples of best practice from around the world, and end with a panel discussion on how studios and exhibitors could collaborate on driving attendances to the mutual benefit of all stakeholders.

Modern marketers know success is no longer simply a matter of selling a good product. They’ve learned customer knowledge—understanding, and even anticipating, the customers’ wants and needs, their orientation and interests, their attitudes and motivations—is critical to achieving a healthy return on marketing spend. In this session, you’ll hear how smart marketers are deploying breakthrough data gathering and management strategies to define their target audiences, develop three-dimensional personas that enable compelling communications, create continuous feedback loops that generate more data and increasingly valuable customer insights and encourage high value customer loyalty. What’s more, you’ll discover how you can employ those same simple, cost-efficient tactics to fill theater seats.

Tentpoles and IP garner the headlines more often than not. And then comes the question – “Where’s all the original content?” If you look closely, you’ll see there’s not only plenty of it, but it’s coming from studios of all shapes and sizes. Just a sampling of 2019 titles include “Parasite”, ‘Uncut Gems”, “Knives Out”, “Harriet”, “Jojo Rabbit”, “Us”, “The Peanut Butter Falcon” and “Once Upon a Time….in Hollywood”. Why then do questions prevail about the dearth of original content? What as an industry must we do better to champion its cause and meet the needs of a moviegoers clamoring for originality on the big screen? Today’s session looks to shine an informative and beneficial light on this topic.
