Last year, we were proud to bring you Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City , which had the best per theater average for a limited opening since Parasite in 2019! Wes Anderson’s summer comedy won over audiences at multiplexes and independent theaters alike. The Holdovers is a heartwarming story that was not only well received critically but has been enthusiastically embraced by audiences around the world. It’s positioned as a new perennial holiday favorite! We also saw films like Champions and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 connect with audiences, and on the specialty side, we were thrilled to bring an award-winning title to your theaters by first time feature filmmaker A.V. Rockwell with A Thousand And One . In 2024, we kicked off the year with new films from first-time filmmakers Zelda Williams and Kobi Libii and established auteurs like Ethan Coen. Looking ahead, we have several more films coming down the pipeline from some of the most talented filmmakers today. In May, we are thrilled to release Sam Taylor-Johnson’s moving portrait of the iconic British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, Back To Black. The film tells the extraordinary story of Amy’s early rise to fame and the making of her groundbreaking album of the same name. The Grammy Award-winning album Back to Black has sold over 16 million copies worldwide and has influenced so many of our musical icons today. It has been wonderful to revisit this incredible artist’s contribution to music. Next in June, we are so happy to team up with director Jeff Nichol’s once again at Focus. Buckle up for Jeff’s newest epic crime drama, The Bikeriders , starring an exciting cast with Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy and Norman Reedus. The Bikeriders follows the rise and fall of a midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals, and its evolution from a gathering place for local outsiders into a dangerous gang over the course of a decade. It’s an intimate and exciting look at how these clubs become “family” complete with love, loyalty, and drama. The film, like riding a motorcycle, will leave you breathless. At Focus we strive to have an eclectic slate that features talented filmmakers with specialized titles that are relatable. Baltasar Kormákur’s Touch is a beautiful story about exploring your first love that will bring happiness and tears in equal measure. The sweeping romantic drama lands in theaters July 12th. Next up is DÌDI ( 弟弟 ) from Oscar®- nominated filmmaker Sean Wang, which will open in theaters on July 26th. DÌDI ( 弟弟 ) is a funny and poignant coming-of-age film about a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy navigating his way through the awkward teenage years. DÌDI ( 弟弟 ) won the Audience Award at Sundance earlier this year and is a film we all can relate to. In October, Focus will release Piece By Piece , the groundbreaking cinematic experience about creative genius and multihyphenate icon Pharrell Williams. Uninterested in making a traditional film about his life, Pharrell set out to tell his story in a way that would set audience’s imaginations free. The result is a film that defies genres and expectations to transport audiences into a LEGO world where anything is possible. The film is directed by Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Academy Award® winning film maker, Morgan Neville, and will be a surprise and delight for movie goers of all ages. It’s been a busy year so far for Lionsgate, with Ordinary Angels, Imaginary, and Arthur The King all opening in the first quarter, and we couldn’t be more thankful for the ongoing support and collaboration from our partners in exhibition. We’re looking forward to the rest of this year and beyond with our diverse slate featuring films across all genres for a variety of audiences. Next weekend, Guy Ritchie’s World War II action comedy The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare opens in wide release, bringing the unbelievable true story of the first-ever special forces organization formed by Winston Churchill. Henry Cavill, Eiza González, and Alan Ritchson lead the ensemble cast, with the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer producing. This thrilling film shows how a motley crew of rogues and mavericks pioneered a new form of unconventional fighting techniques to take on the Nazis and changed the course of the war, laying the groundwork for modern Black Ops warfare in the process. The following weekend, our latest collaboration with Kingdom Story Company, Unsung Heroes , heads to theatres, telling the inspirational story of the Smallbone family and the origins of two Grammy-winning Christian pop acts: for King + Country and singer/ songwriter Rebecca St. James. . When David Smallbone’s successful music company collapses, he moves his family from Australia to the United States in search of a brighter future. With nothing more than their six children, their suitcases and their love of music, the Smallbone family sets out to rebuild their lives from the ground up, leaning into their mom’s faith against all odds. Joel Smallbone (one half of for King + Country) writes, directs, and stars in this remarkable true story. Back in 2008, The Strangers, the debut film from the then-unknown writer/director Bryan Bertino became a sleeper hit, vastly overperforming the modest expectations and creating a cult classic in the process. On May 17th, the story continues with The Strangers: Chapter 1 , directed by Renny Harlin, produced by Courtney Solomon and Mark Canton, and starring Madelaine Petsch (“Riverdale”) and Froy Gutierrez (“Teen Wolf”). When a young couple breaks down in rural Oregon during a cross-country road trip, they are forced to stay in an isolated cabin for the night. The trip quickly turns into a nightmare, as three masked strangers terrorize them, and they must fight to survive. This summer, Bill Skarsgård takes on an iconic role in Rupert Sanders’ The Crow, a modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr. In the film, soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are, brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right. Borderlands is one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time and lethis August, the franchise makes its way to the big screen with a massive ensemble cast led by Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Jamie Lee Curtis – alongside Cinemacon’s Rising Star of 2024, Ariana Greenblatt – and directed by Eli Roth. The film, starring Academy Award® winner Helen Mirren and Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson, traces the origins and themes of Wonder to World War II-era France, where a young girl is forced into hiding and her schoolmate risks everything to give her the chance to survive. Just in time for the holidays, Kingdom Story Company’s Best Christmas Pageant Ever opens November 15th, bringing the beloved children’s novel to the big screen for the first time from director Dallas Jenkins (creator and director of “The Chosen” series). The film centers on the Herdmans – absolutely the worst kids in the history of the world. But this Christmas, they’re taking over their local church Pageant, and they just might unwittingly teach a shocked community the true meaning of Christmas. 2025 will open with a bang for Lionsgate, with the Untitled Guy Ritchie Movie on January 17th. While most of the details on this project remain under wraps, we can’t wait for audiences to see Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, and Eiza González team up with Guy Ritchie for a fun and thrilling actioner in an exotic locale. Without a doubt, Michael Jackson is the most iconic star in the history of pop music. Next spring, we can’t wait to bring his story to theatres with Michael. The film will bring audiences a riveting and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated man who became known worldwide as the King of Pop. This epic, cinematic film will examine Jackson’s triumphs and tragedies — from his human side, to his public and private struggles, to the accusations and the 24/7 media microscope Jackson lived under, even at his artistic apex. The all-star filmmaking team will also capture Michael’s undeniable creative genius, recreating his most memorable, iconic performances. As never before, audiences will experience an inside look at one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known. And next June, the latest chapter of the John Wick Universe opens with Ballerina . Starring Ana de Armas in the title role as an assassin who is trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma, this globetrotting adventure from director Len Wiseman and franchise producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road alongside Chad Stahelski, expands the world of Wick, introducing a host of new and dangerous characters, while also firmly placing it in the same universe as the preceding entries.
