We’re looking forward to seeing you all throughout the week and in the Colosseum on Thursday. It’s been an exciting and busy year for us so far with the triumphant return of John Wick to the big screen in John Wick: Chapter 4 , opening #1 all over the world to a franchise- high box office performance, the sleeper hit Plane, and Kingdom Story Company’s box office success, Jesus Revolution. These successes are even more rewarding thanks to the ongoing collaboration and support we receive from our partners in exhibition, and we look forward to a fantastic year ahead with a diverse slate that includes an incredible line up of new titles. This weekend we bring the 50-years-in-the-making adaptation of Judy Blume’s beloved book Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret from writer-director Kelly Fremon Craig and Gracie Films’ producers James L. Brooks and Julie Ansell, as well as the Finnish action/thriller SISU from Jalmari Helander to your theaters. Next month, Sebastian Maniscalco stars opposite Robert De Niro in About My Father as the film takes its bow on Memorial Day weekend. After decades of horror films reinforcing genre tropes, director Tim Story brings a film that poses the sardonic question: if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first? The Blackening follows a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway, only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Forced to play along with the killer’s game, the friends must fight for their lives in this comedic take on the classic slasher film, coming this Juneteenth weekend. Following the back-to-back successes of Crazy Rich Asians and Raya And The Last Dragon , screenwriter Adele Lim is stepping behind the camera for the first time with the hilarious and unapologetic road trip movie Joy Ride, produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg through their Point Grey Productions banner. Coming in July, this hysterical, R-rated comedy follows four friends who embark on a wild international road trip together. Along the way, their experience will become one of bonding, friendship, belonging, and no-holds-barred debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are. In 2017, audiences across the country were introduced to the inspiring story of Auggie Pullman and the universal message of kindness and acceptance in the film Wonder, which went on to gross over $306M worldwide. This August, the legacy continues with White Bird , directed by Marc Forster and based on the graphic novel by R.J. Palacio. The film, starring Academy Award® winner Helen Mirren and Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson, traces the origins and themes of Wonder to World War II-era France, where a young girl is forced into hiding and her schoolmate risks everything to give her the chance to survive. When a mission seems ill-advised, impossible, and completely off the books, there’s only one team to call, and after nearly a decade of silence, The Expendables are back with a vengeance in Expend4bles . Global war and destruction looms as the world’s greatest superpowers are facing imminent nuclear conflict, and The Expendables are the only ones capable of defusing the standoff. This September, Lee Christmas (Jason Statham) and Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) return with a star-studded cast of teammates—including new faces 50 Cent and Megan Fox—to deliver the excitement DAVID SPITZ President, Domestic Distribution Lionsgate (Continued on the next page)and action that this franchise is famous for, all while saving the world. For nearly 20 years, Saw has set the gold standard for intense, visceral horror, and this October, the $1 billion horror franchise is back, with all-new twisted, ingenious traps and a new mystery to solve. We are excited to have Tobin Bell returning this Halloween for Saw X, and can’t wait to share more details as we get closer to release. This past February, we scored a hit for faith audiences with Kingdom Story Company’s Jesus Revolution. Our next film with Kingdom, Ordinary Angels, starring Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson, hits theaters in October. Based on a remarkable true story, Ordinary Angels centers on Sharon Steves (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed Schmitt (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With his youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. Finally, this November, audiences will return to the world of The Hunger Games with the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s #1 New York Times Bestseller, The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes . 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute, and decades before Coriolanus Snow became the tyrannical President of Panem, The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake. Beyond 2023, we have many exciting projects including Ballerina (6/7/24), an expansion of the John Wick franchise starring Ana de Armas, the story of the King of Pop with our yet to be titled Michael Jackson biopic from director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) produced by Graham King ( Bohemian Rhapsody ), and director Eli Roth’s adaptation of one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, Borderlands, starring an ensemble cast led by Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Lionsgate continues to be committed to bringing fresh, original, and diverse films to your screens, and we look forward to many more successes together.
