We started off the year with Emily and opened Mafia Mamma nationwide. We’re eager to present our upcoming slate, while reuniting with our friends in exhibition, and celebrating movies on the big screen. Next up is The Starling Girl on May 12. In Laurel Parmet’s feature directorial debut, she brings to the screen the powerful coming-of-age story of Jem Starling (Eliza Scanlen), a seventeen-year-old struggling to define her place within her fundamental Christian community. When youth pastor Owen (Lewis Pullman) returns, Jem finds herself attracted to his worldliness and charm. Slowly, he draws her into a dangerous relationship that could upend their entire community. In another female filmmaker’s feature directorial debut, Bleecker will bring Alice Troughton’s thriller The Lesson to select theaters July 7. Daryl McCormack stars alongside Oscar-nominees Richard E. Grant and Julie Delpy, as he portrays an aspiring young author, hungry for recognition and success, who takes a tutoring position at a legendary writer’s estate. Soon the young tutor realizes he is engulfed in his hero’s complicated family legacy, which holds a deadly past and threatens his own future. Golda premiered at this year’s Berlinale Film Festival and will be in theaters nationwide August 25. Guy Nativ’s film, starring Helen Mirren, Liev Schreiber, and Camille Cottin, focuses on the intensely dramatic and high-stakes decisions that Golda Meir, also known as the ‘Iron Lady of Israel’, faced during the Yom Kippur War. Later this year, we have What Happens Later. Meg Ryan’s return to screen and the director’s chair. The film follows former lovers Willa (Ryan) and Bill (David Duchovny) who are accidentally reunited with one another when they get snowed in at an airport overnight. Over the course of the night, they find themselves revisiting their past, along with what could have been and what might come to be. We have more films in the works that we’ll be sharing with you soon. All in all, we can’t wait to show our slate of movies with all of you. Wishing everyone a great week at CinemaCon. On behalf of everyone here at Focus Features, we are thrilled to be back in Las Vegas to celebrate moviegoing with all of you. We deeply believe in the theatrical experience at Focus. There is no substitute for the power of movies to inspire human connection and bring communities together. At Focus Features we strive to make films that not only entertain, but also expand our worldview and ignite cultural conversations. Last year, we were excited to partner with you to release a variety of entertaining and thought-provoking films that represented a broad spectrum of stories. I’m happy to share that we have an equally ambitious slate in 2023. This year, we are working with some of the industry’s top filmmakers, including auteurs like Wes Anderson, who we are ecstatic be back in business with on Asteroid City after releasing his much beloved Moonrise Kingdom in 2012. We also can’t wait to show audiences Alexander Payne’s highly anticipated next film The Holdovers , which stars Paul Giamatti as a curmudgeonly teacher at an elite New England prep school. This year will also see the release of a comedy from director Ethan Coen as well as returning fan favorite franchises Book Club: The Next Chapter and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 . We are also proud to feature the directorial debuts from exciting newcomers like Nida Manzoor with Polite Society and A.V. Rockwell’s A Thousand and One, which is currently in theaters. Looking beyond 2023, Focus has the latest film from acclaimed Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur, Touch and Back to Black about the life and music of Amy Winehouse from director Sam Taylor-Johnson, as well as Zelda Williams’ directorial debut Lisa Frankenstein written by Diablo Cody. We’re also continuing our relationship with visionary filmmaker Robert Eggers on his exciting reimagining of Nosferatu , which stars Bill Skarsgard, Lily Rose-Depp, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron-Taylor Johnson, and is currently in production in Prague. None of this would be possible without our trusted and valued exhibition partners. Thank you for your support and partnership in bringing our films to audiences across the globe. We look forward to continuing to provide your theaters and moviegoers with a wide variety of high-quality films for many years to come. Thank you!
