CHRIS ARONSON President, Domestic Distribution Paramount PicturesCinemaCon Would Like to Thank For Their Outstanding Support and Assistance in The ColosseumIt’s great to be back in Las Vegas at CinemaCon this year. Looking forward to seeing our Exhibition Partners in person and sharing the upcoming Roadside Attractions line-up listed below. Somewhere In Queens, which opened on April 21 and is currently playing in theaters, stars the much-loved Ray Romano and the very talented Laurie Metcalf in a heartfelt film about fathers and sons, basketball, and the pains of young love. A love song to Italian American families, Ray Romano wrote and directed this charming film that has opened or is opening soon in a theater near you. Fools Paradise , a satirical, high-octane comedy, written and directed by Charlie Day, opens nationally on May 12. Charlie Day stars along with Ken Jeong, Ray Liotta, Kate Beckinsale, Adrien Brody, Common, Edie Falco and John Malkovich in a comedy that unfolds in the backlots and boardrooms of Hollywood. And only in Hollywood, can a man-on-the-street doppelganger replace a Hollywood movie star who is unable to finish filming his upcoming project. What ensues is one zany, turbulent ride for this “new” star of Hollywood, navigating the pitfalls and trappings of Tinseltown. Our next film, The Last Rider , which opens June 23, is a riveting documentary about American cyclist Greg LeMond, who in 1989 came back from a near death accident to win the one of the most grueling and coveted cycling races ever, the Tour De France. Directed by Alex Holmes, the film explores Lemond’s deeply personal journey through trauma, the twists and turn of fame, and showcases his extraordinary athletic talent and perseverance, which propels him to star in one of the greatest, little known comeback stories in Sports History. Dreamin’ Wild , which opens in August, stars Casey Affleck ( Manchester By The Sea ) and Zooey Deschanel ( 500 Days Of Summer ), in a film written and directed by Bill Pohlad (who also directed the Brian Wilson bio, Love And Mercy). Dreamin’ Wild tells the true story of two brothers, Donnie and Joe Emerson, who decades ago, had big dreams and self-recorded a pop-funk album. To their disappointment, the record went largely unnoticed. 30 years later, critics rediscover their music and the album gets re-released to great success. With their newfound fame, the brothers are forced to confront ghosts from the past. Dreamin’ Wild is a heartfelt film that reminds us, despite life’s disappointments, to never stop dreaming. Retribution, which opens nationally at the end of August, rounds out the summer release schedule for Roadside Attractions. This action thriller, with a Speed vibe to it, stars Liam Neeson in an American remake of a 2015 Spanish thriller El Desconocido , which won 8 Goya Awards when it was released in Spain. Retribution is directed by Nimrod Antal (directed Predators). In the film, Neeson plays an American businessman living in Berlin. One day, while driving his children to school on his way to work, he gets a mysterious call. The caller tells him that a bomb has been planted in his car. He must follow a series of instructions given by the caller, in order to keep the bomb from exploding. The bomb will not only blow him up but will also take out his beloved family. Strap yourself in for one nail-biting, race against time ride. Roadside Attractions wants to thank our Exhibition Partners for their continued support of Roadside Attractions throughout the years. We cherish these relationships and look forward to working with all of you in the coming years. See you at the movies. This past year Sony Pictures Classics released Living to tremendous critical acclaim and a box office gross of over $3M, garnering 2 Oscar nominations – one for Bill Nighy as Best Actor and another for Adapted Screenplay by Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro. We also had successful releases of the documentary Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song ($1M plus) and the based-on-a-true-story, The Duke (just under $2M) starring Helen Mirren. On April 21 we will release a reimagining of Bizet’s Carmen, starring Paul Mescal (Academy Award nominee for Aftersun ) and Melissa Barrera ( Scream VI, In The Heights ). Directed by Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied, it features a score by award-winning composer Nicholas Britell (“Succession”, 12 Years A Slave) and is a dramatic love story beautifully set against the backdrop of the US-Mexican border. On May 12 we open It Ain’t Over , the highly anticipated documentary on legendary Yankees catcher, Yogi Berra. The film delves beyond the caricatures and “yogisms” to capture the true heart and soul of one of baseball’s all-time greats, fielding testimonials from the likes of Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly, Billy Crystal, Bob Costas, Vin Scully and many others, including his son Dale Berra and granddaughter Lindsay Berra. In July we’ll have The Miracle Club, a humorous journey starring Laura Linney, Maggie Smith and Kathy Bates who play women that just have one dream – to escape the gauntlet of domestic life in a village outside Dublin by making the pilgrimage to the French town of Lourdes where millions flock each year seeking miracles. The film will have a highly faith based appeal as well as the wide secular rung of audiences that these marvelous actors already draw from. In August we will release the Sundance hit A Little Prayer . Director Angus MacLachlan (writer of Junebug) crafts another deeply personal and humorous tale of complex family dynamics in a small southern town. It stars David Straitharin (Nomadland, The Bourne Ultimatum ), in a career best performance, Jane Levy (“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”), Celia Weston and Anna Camp (“True Blood”, Pitch Perfect). This fall will be Shortcomings another Sundance hit. It’s based on a graphic novel that is actor Randall Park’s (“Wandavision”) directorial debut. This rom com is about Ben played by Justin H Min ( After Yang ), a struggling filmmaker, who lives in Berkeley, California, with his girlfriend, Miko, who works for a local film festival. When he’s not managing an art house movie theater as his day job, Ben spends his time obsessing over unavailable blond women, watching DVDs, and eating in diners with his best friend, Alice, a queer grad student with a serial dating habit. When Miko moves to New York for an internship, Ben is left to his own devices and begins to explore what he thinks he might want. Somewhat reminiscent of the film Farewell it exposes a multiplicity of Asian American identities in a fresh and groundbreaking way and with wit and humor it embraces the complexity of being human, flaws and all. Later in the fall we’ll release the Sundance audience winner The Persian Version. Punctuated by a bright color palette, snappy comedic relief, and vibrant dance numbers, the film delivers an honest portrayal of a woman who remains unapologetically herself, blended seamlessly into a heartfelt story about family, belonging, and the undeniable influence of pop music.
