WASHINGTON D.C. (March 21, 2016) – Susan Sarandon will receive the “Cinema Icon Award” it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) will be held April 11-14, 2016 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Sarandon will be presented with this special honor at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony taking place on the evening of Thursday, April 14, at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, hosted by the Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon.
“Since making her feature film debut in 1970’s ‘Joe’ Susan Sarandon has brought some of the most unforgettable and versatile performances to the big screen,” noted Neuhauser. “She has continued to entertain and inspire audiences throughout her career with the breadth of intelligence and fearless portrayals that she has brought to some of the most challenging roles on screen and we could not be more delighted to honor such an amazing actress with this years ‘Cinema Icon Award.’”
“The Meddler,” to be released on April 22, 2016 via Sony Pictures Classics, stars Sarandon as a recently widowed Marnie Minervini who has happily relocated from New Jersey to Los Angeles to be near her daughter Lori (Rose Byrne) a successful (but still single) screenwriter, and smother her with motherly love. But when the dozens of texts, unexpected visits, and conversations dominated by unsolicited advice force Lori to draw strict personal boundaries, Marnie finds ways to channel her eternal optimism and forceful generosity to change the lives of others- as well as her own – and find a new purpose in life.
Since the beginning of her career, Sarandon has starred in many memorable films including: “Joe,” “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Pretty Baby,” “Bull Durham,” “The Banger Sisters,” “Step Mom,” “The Witches of Eastwick,” and “Little Women.” She has earned Oscar® nominations for her work in “Thelma and Louise,” “Lorenzo’s Oil,” “The Client” and “Atlantic City” while winning an Academy Award® and SAG® Award for her role as Sister Helen, a nun consoling a death-row inmate in “Dead Man Walking.” Sarandon has also brought her talents to the small screen first with a continuing role in the TV drama “A World Apart,” and has received an Emmy® Nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries for her role in the HBO film “Bernard and Doris,” as well as a Golden Globe® and SAG® nomination. She received an Emmy® and SAG® nomination for her work in Barry Levinson’s “You Don’t Know Jack” with Al Pacino for HBO.
