WASHINGTON D.C. (April 13, 2018) –Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones will receive the “CinemaCon® Award of Excellence in Acting,” it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), will be held April 23-26, 2018 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Jones will be presented with this special honor at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony taking place on the evening of Thursday, April 26, at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, hosted by the Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon.
“Felicity Jones is one of the most sought after actresses on the big screen due to her powerful performances and scene-stealing presence,” noted Neuhauser. “Following successful films including ‘The Theory of Everything,’ and ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ we are thrilled to honor Jones with this year’s ‘CinemaCon Award of Excellence in Acting’ for an important performance in this year’s very topical ‘On The Basis of Sex.’”
Jones can be seen this fall as Ruth Bader Ginsburg in “On The Basis of Sex” to be released by Focus Features. An inspiring and spirited true story, “On the Basis of Sex” follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the Supreme Court and overturn a century of gender discrimination. The feature will release this fall, in line with Justice Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court. The film directed by Mimi Leder also stars Armie Hammer, Justin Theroux and Cailee Spaeny.
Born and raised in the UK, Jones started her acting career as a young child while continuing to pursue her education and eventually receiving a degree from Oxford. American audiences first took notice of her in 2001’s “Like Crazy,” which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim. Jones is best known for her Academy Award nominated performance in “The Theory of Everything,” and most recently she led the cast of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” Additional film credits include “The Invisible Woman,” “True Story,” “Breath In,” The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” “Inferno,” and “A Monster Calls.” In addition to “On the Basis of Sex,” she will reteam with Eddie Redmayne in “The Aeronauts,” and is attached to star in the Luca Guadagnino directed “Swan Lake.”
CinemaCon will attract upwards of 6,000 motion picture professionals from all facets of the industry – from exhibition and distribution, to the equipment and concession areas – all on hand to celebrate the movie-going experience and the cinema industry. From exclusive Hollywood product presentations highlighting a slate of upcoming films, to must-see premiere feature screenings, to the biggest stars, producers and directors, CinemaCon will help jumpstart the excitement and buzz that surrounds the summer season at the box office.
CinemaCon is delighted to have both the International Cinema Technology Association (ICTA) and National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) as its tradeshow partners. CinemaCon is also delighted to have as its official presenting sponsor, The Coca-Cola Company, one of the industry’s greatest and highly regarded and respected partners in the world of the movies.
