Washington D.C. (March 24, 2011) – Chris Hemsworth will receive the “CinemaCon Male Star of Tomorrow Award,” it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon, which will be held March 28–31, 2011, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Hemsworth will be presented with this special honor at the inaugural “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, March 31st in The Colosseum of Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, Official Presenting Sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.
“With a successful small screen career in Australia, Hemsworth is sure to impress audiences with his upcoming role in ‘Thor’,” noted Neuhauser. “We are excited for what the future holds for Hemsworth on the big screen and are thrilled to present him with the ‘CinemaCon Male Star of Tomorrow Award.’”
Hemsworth can be seen this spring in “Thor,” from Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios, to be released on May 6, 2011. The epic adventure, directed by Kenneth Branagh, from a screenplay by Ashley Edward Miller & Zack Stentz and Don Payne and a story by J. Michael Straczynski and Mark Protosevich spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the mystical realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As a result, Thor is banished to Earth where he is forced to live among humans. When the most dangerous villain of his world sends its darkest forces to invade Earth, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero.
Born and raised in Australia, Hemsworth first made a name for himself as a series regular on the popular Australian television series “Home and Away.” He made his U.S. film debut in “Star Trek,” directed by J.J. Abrams, playing the pivotal role of George Kirk. In addition to “Thor,” Hemsworth will star in the Dan Bradley remake of “Red Dawn” and the Joss Whedon & Drew Goddard scripted “Cabin in the Woods,” and will begin production on Marvel Studios’ “The Avengers” this year.
