BBC Worldwide North America to receive CinemaCon’s Excellence in Event Cinema Award
On Tuesday, April 12, 2016, CinemaCon’s Excellence in Event Cinema Award will be presented to BBC Worldwide North America for their record-breaking success in global event cinema including their popular Doctor Who series. The award will be presented by John Rubey, CEO of Fathom Events, a recognized leader in alternative content distribution. Soumya Sriraman, Executive Vice President, Franchise and Digital Enterprises, BBC Worldwide North America will accept the award.
The team at BBC Worldwide North America has now produced nine cinema events, using the medium to mark 50 years of Doctor Who, to introduce U.S. audiences to one of the world’s greatest classical music festival with Last Night of the Proms 2015, to bring the wonder of nature like no other medium can in BBC Earth’s Enchanted Kingdom 3D, to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of William Shakespeare’s passing with a unique Monty Python-esque comedy Bill, and to welcome the return of international hit series, Sherlock, with a hugely-anticipated one-off special, The Abominable Bride.
The Excellence in Event Cinema Award will be presented during the all-industry breakfast and program in the Palace Ballrooms from 7:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Photo and video opportunities will be available during and post-award presentation with Fathom and BBC executives.
CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), will be held April 11-14, 2016, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
