WASHINGTON D.C. (11 March, 2014) – Adam Sandler will receive the “CinemaCon® Male Star of the Year Award” at this year’s CinemaCon, it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), will be held 24 – 27 March, 2014, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Sandler will be presented with this special honor at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, 27 March, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.
“With phenomenal box office success as an actor, writer and producer, Adam Sandler has brought some of the most entertaining and hilarious comedies of the past three decades to the big screen,” noted Neuhauser. “His undeniable ability to keep audiences laughing has been proven time and time again with films including ‘The Wedding Singer,’ ‘Happy Gilmore,’ ‘The Waterboy,’ ‘Big Daddy,’ ’50 First Dates’, ‘Just Go With It’ and, most recently, ‘Grown Ups 2’, to name just a few. CinemaCon is thrilled to present him with this year’s ‘Male Star of the Year Award.’”
Sandler will next be seen alongside Drew Barrymore in Warner Bros. Pictures’ romantic comedy “Blended,” in theatres nationwide on May 23, 2014. Marking their third comedy collaboration, Sandler and Barrymore star as single parents, who, after a disastrous blind date, agree on only one thing: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week. “Blended” also stars Kevin Nealon, Terry Crews and Wendi McLendon-Covey.
Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire, Sandler started out at 17 with a performance at a Boston comedy club and continued to perform regularly in comedy clubs throughout the state, while earning a degree in Fine Arts from New York University. To date, his films have grossed over $3 billion worldwide. He recently starred in “Grown Ups 2,” “That’s My Boy,” “Jack and Jill,” and “Just Go With It,” and lent his voice to “Hotel Transylvania.” His previous films include “Funny People,” “Click,” “The Longest Yard,” “Anger Management,” “Punch-Drunk Love,” “50 First Dates,” and “The Wedding Singer.”. Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison Productions, produced many of the aforementioned films, as well as others, including “The House Bunny,” “Big Daddy,” “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” and “Zookeeper.” Sandler has also collaborated with writer Tim Herlihy on the screenplays for “Happy Gilmore,” “Little Nicky,” “Billy Madison,” “Big Daddy” and “The Waterboy,” and executive produced “Grandma’s Boy,” “The Animal,” “Joe Dirt,” “The Master of Disguise,” “The Hot Chick” and “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo.” He is currently in production on “Hotel Transylvania 2” and has just completed filming on “The Cobbler” and “Pale Blue Dot.” On the small screen, Happy Madison Productions’ development deal with Columbia Tri-Star Domestic Television has resulted in such projects as “Rules of Engagement,” “The Goldbergs,” “Pretend Time,” and “Breaking In.” Additionally, Sandler’s comedy albums have gone multi-platinum, selling more than six million copies.
