He said something that has stuck in my mind ever since. I’m paraphrasing a bit, but he noted, “What I love about going to the movies is there’s no pause button. There’s no remote control in hand to freeze the action at any given time. When you go to the movies you are taking an uncompromised, uninterrupted deep dive investment of time, mind and money in what’s up on that screen from lights down until lights up. You are there to see a story being told by incredible filmmakers and actors from start to finish without any option to, well, pause the action on screen. That’s what a movie is all about. And the only place in which to experience this is at a motion picture theater. “Well, I think anyone reading this joins me in saying bravo, James Gray, bravo. And now, without further ado, as has been customary since 2011, it is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to CinemaCon 2024, a place we’re proud to call “home of the no pause button”! Leave your cares at the door, grab some popcorn, candy and drinks and let our theaters and the magic of the movies do the rest. It’s time for CinemaCon 2024, our time to celebrate the greatness and joys of going to the movies. As always, over the course of the next four days you are going to see an impressive and varied array of product (studio presentations and screenings) meant to be shown on the big screen and only in your theaters. From the mega-budgeted tentpoles to the mid-size thrillers to the smaller, more relatively unknown, waiting to be discovered titles that need a little nurturing and discovery, we are gathered here in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace to do what we do best in celebrating the moviegoing experience. To our studio partners, equipment and concessions companies who support the trade show, members of the press, our NATO exhibitor members, and everyone else who is on hand this week, our sincerest thanks and gratitude. The CinemaCon schedule has been designed to keep you busy all day long. Some highlights this year include our International Day component of the show; our opening night party which returns to the excitement of Omnia; a Tuesday evening poolside reception themed to the summer films of 2024: the all-important trade show and demonstration suites; studio presentations and screenings from Crunchyroll/Sony Pictures, Focus Features, Lionsgate, NEON, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. And, thanks to the great response in hosting a special dinner party out front of Caesars in the Limo Hub area, we’re delighted to be hosting an encore performance on Wednesday evening, prior to our evening screening. Our week concludes on Thursday evening in grand style with our “Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony, followed by a special final night party, all courtesy of The Coca-Cola Company, our Official Presenting Sponsor. For all they continue to do here at CinemaCon and throughout the industry, you couldn’t ask for a better partner. Thanks so much to Dagmar Boggs, Michael Young, Josh Nations, Lauren Fink and Mayson Spellman and the entire team at The Coca-Cola Company. The objective of CinemaCon continues to be a simple one – to provide the entire industry with a forum that is all about exhibition, distribution, the movies of the future, technology that continues to break new ground from both a filmmaking and exhibition MITCH NEUHAUSER Managing Director, CinemaCon Welcome to CinemaCon 2024(Mitch Neuhauser Continued) standpoint (courtesy of our partners at the ICTA), and, of course, those delectable new treats and concessions we take with us to our seats as the lights are about to dim (courtesy of our partners at NAC). In giving thanks and recognition, we would also like to single out the continued support we receive from Barco, Christie, Dolby, Harkness Screens and Q-Sys as it concerns the presentation in The Colosseum. The success of CinemaCon is thanks to an abundance of support and a unique collaboration between so many companies and individuals. As always, the health, safety and welfare of our attendees is a priority, which brings us to our security measures. When you enter The Colosseum there will be a designated entrance for large bags and back packs (including the official CinemaCon Goody Bag). If possible, simply leave large bags in your hotel room as that will make entry to events much easier. We will be moderating the flow of entry into The Colosseum and have added additional security throughout the venue. When the lights go down we will be working behind the scenes to make sure we provide as safe an environment as possible. I would like to thank the NATO Conventions Committee including John Curry, Gregory Quinn, Nikkole Denson-Randolph, Miguel Rivera, Damon Rubio and Sabrina Starr, our Vice Chair Racheal Wilson, and our Chair Steve Zuehlke. And a special thanks and shout out to NATO Chair Bob Bagby, who served tirelessly on the Conventions Committee until being named NATO Chair. Their insight and guidance over the course of the year, along with the entire NATO organization, have proved invaluable. Lastly, I would like to thank my incomparable Team CinemaCon who work tirelessly for you and the entire industry in making sure CinemaCon is the best it can be - Matt Pollock and Matt Shapiro. Words cannot adequately express my deep appreciation for them. And last but not least, on behalf of our team, we want to acknowledge the great support we’ve received over the past year from Michael O’Leary, President and CEO, NATO. While he was warned early on, he now knows what a Mitch email is all about. But, in all seriousness, he’s been fully supportive of our efforts, listening to our ideas, and, more importantly, looking at the show in a different way so as to take us in a new direction. His ideas have been fully embraced and welcomed and we value all the encouragement and support he’s given all of us at CinemaCon and NATO. Have a great week and if there is anything we can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please let us know. Next >
