< PreviousI know we say this every year, but that’s only because we truly mean it: it really is exciting to come together with our incredible partners in exhibition for CinemaCon, where we have a chance to set the stage for our upcoming theatrical slate in a big way. Last year, we kicked off summer with Elvis , which turned out to be a huge hit—and a gift that kept on giving, as we navigated the title through release, where it became the year’s highest-grossing non- franchise film, through a very successful awards season. And here we are, back in Vegas to preview the titles audiences will get to see on your screens this year and into 2024. Get the popcorn popping: this summer is loaded with titles audiences have been clamoring for, beginning on June 16th in theaters and IMAX with the action adventure The Flash , the first-ever standalone film for the fan-favorite DC Super Hero. Ezra Miller returns to the role—make that roles—of Barry Allen, alongside Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue and Michael Keaton. It’s directed by IT franchise hitmaker Andy Muschietti from a script by Christina Hodson, screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold, based on characters from DC, and produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco. July 21st ushers in another first for the big screen with Barbie, starring Margot Robbie in the title role of the most iconic toy brand in history, opposite Ryan Gosling as Ken. Greta Gerwig directed the comedy adventure from a script she wrote with Noah Baumbach based on Barbie by Mattel, and the producers are David Heyman, Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner. The stellar ensemble includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell, along with Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells and Sharon Rooney. Next up, we dive even deeper into dangerous waters with sci-fi action thriller Meg 2: The Trench , which splashes into theaters August 4th with The Meg star Jason Statham reprising his role alongside Cliff Curtis, Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy and Wu Jing. Ben Wheatley is at the helm of the Warner Bros. Pictures/Shanghai CMC Pictures collaboration, directing from a screenplay by Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber and Dean Georgaris, Screen Story by Dean Georgaris and Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber, Based on the novel The Trench by Steve Alten. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery return as producers. Soaring onto the big screen for the very first time on August 18th is the DC Super Hero Blue Beetle . Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the film stars Xolo Maridueña in the title role as well as his alter ego, recent college grad Jaime Reyes, who is searching for his purpose in the world when fate intervenes and, via an ancient relic of alien biotechnology, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary powers—forever changing his destiny. The film also stars Adriana Barraza, Damían Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Bruna Marquezine, Raoul Max Trujillo, with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez, plus Belissa Escobedo and Harvey Guillén. John Rickard and Zev Foreman are the producers, with the screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, based on characters from DC. Heading into the fall corridor, our partners at New Line Cinema deliver the horror thriller The Nun II , the next chapter in the story of The Nun —the highest grossing entry in the juggernaut $2B Conjuring Universe. Set in 1956 France, a priest is murdered, an evil is spreading, and Sister Irene once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun. Taissa Farmiga returns to the role of Sister Irene, joined by Jonas Bloquet, Storm Reid, JEFF GOLDSTEIN President, Domestic Distribution Warner Bros. Pictures (Continued on the next page)(Warner Bros. Pictures continued) Anna Popplewell and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her role from The Nun . Michael Chaves directs from a screenplay by Ian Goldbert & Richard Naing and Akela Cooper, story by Cooper, based on characters created by James Wan & Gary Dauberman. Peter Safran and Wan produce, continuing the longstanding collaboration on these films. The Nun II arrives in theaters September 8th. The eagerly anticipated follow up to the six-time Academy Award-winning Dune, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ Dune: Part Two , in theaters and IMAX November 3rd, explores the mythic journey of Paul Atreides—played again by Timothée Chalamet— as he unites with Zendaya’s Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee. Denis Villeneuve again directs from a screenplay he wrote with Jon Spaihts, based upon Frank Herbert’s seminal novel. Also starring are Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Léa Seydoux, with Stellan Skarsgård, with Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem. Villeneuve, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Tanya LaPointe and Patrick McCormick. In the heart of the holidays, Warners bears not one, not two, but three gifts for the season, beginning on December 15th with an original film from director Paul King, starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role. Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the jewel in the Roald Dahl crown and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, Wonka tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today. King penned the screenplay with Simon Farnaby, based on King’s own story and characters created by Roald Dahl. The film is produced by David Heyman, Alexandra Derbyshire and Luke Kelly, and features an incredible ensemble, including Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Natasha Rothwell, Rich Fulcher, Rakhee Thakrar, Tom Davis, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, with Olivia Colman. On Christmas Day, Jason Momoa rides a wave into theaters and IMAX as Arthur Curry in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom—the follow up to the highest-grossing DC Super Hero film of all time—with James Wan once again directing the hugely anticipated action adventure. This time, the action and the stakes are even bigger as an ancient power is unleased, and Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation. Produced by Peter Safran, James Wan and Rob Cowan, the film reunites the original cast, including Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Randall Park, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, and Nicole Kidman. Also coming to theaters for Christmas is The Color Purple, directed by Blitz Bazawule and starring an incredible cast, including Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Aunjanue Ellis, and Fantasia Barrino, as well as Louis Gossett Jr., David Alan Grier, Ciara, Deon Cole, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, Tamela J. Mann and Stephen Hill. The screenplay by Marcus Gardley is based on the musical stage play, book (of the musical stage play) by Marsha Norman, music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, based on the novel by Alice Walker. The film is produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones. Looking ahead, 2024 promises an exciting and diverse slate, with Toto , an animated return to Oz; the next explosive chapter in Legendary’s epic Godzilla and Kong franchise; Robert Pattinson in Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17; the anime action adventure that returns audiences to the world of J.R.R. Tolkien with The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim ; George Miller’s much-anticipated prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa , starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke; Ishana Night Shyamalan’s The Watchers and M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap; Todd Phillips’ sequel to his blockbuster Joker, Joker: Folie À Deux , which pairs Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga; and much, much more. On behalf of everyone at Warner Bros., thank you for being such terrific partners—and here is to another terrific CinemaCon!(Sony Pictures Classics Continued) Also in the fall will be a new short film from Pedro Almodovar, A Strange Way Of Life, a western, starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal. At Christmas we look to have Freud’s Last Session , starring the incomparable Anthony Hopkins. Set on the eve of WWII and toward the end of his life, the film sees Freud (Hopkins) invite iconic author C.S. Lewis for a debate over the existence of God. Exploring Freud’s unique relationship with his lesbian daughter Anna and Lewis’ unconventional romance with his best friend’s mother, the film interweaves past, present and fantasy into a flurry of orgiastic scenes. Following the phenomenal success of Avatar: The Way of the Water, 20th Century Studios will be introducing The Boogeyman to audiences this June, a horror-thriller from the mind of Stephen King in which a grieving family is terrorized by a mysterious entity that feeds on their suffering.
