Including this year, that should have amounted to 13 occasions, but because of you know what, I’ll settle for 12. Helping guide and steer CinemaCon to success over the years has been the highlight of my professional career. And like Lou Gehrig, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth. But, I also consider myself lucky because I’ve been able to work under the guidance of, well, my boss, John Fithian, who had the passion, vision and foresight to create CinemaCon, bringing the largest and most important convention for the global theatrical industry under the banner of NATO. And in doing so, he brought me on to steer the ship. Again, how lucky can one guy get. John, as we all know, is moving on after serving 22 years as President and CEO of NATO. I will not use this space to get sentimental nor emotional. I will simply say, thank you John. Thank you for giving me the space to do what I think I do well. Thank you for putting up with a voluminous number of “Mitch” emails. And, most importantly, thank you for your support, guidance, insight and friendship. We will leave a flickering light emanating from the projection booth here at CinemaCon just for you. And to Michael O’Leary, our incoming NATO President & CEO – elect, we welcome and look forward to working with you as we take CinemaCon to new levels of success under your leadership. With this all said, here we go. Welcome to CinemaCon 2023. Entering the new year, word on the street was, it might be rough sailing at the box office through the first quarter and until the 2023 release slate kicks into high gear. Forget rough sailing. It’s been more than smooth sailing. it’s been America’s Cup like. We have officially closed the door on the pandemic and we are back in business in a big way. Leave your cares at the door, grab some popcorn, candy, and soda and let our theaters and the magic of the movies do the rest. It’s time for CinemaCon 2023, our time to celebrate the joys of going to the movies. As always, over the course of the next four days you are going to see an impressive and varied array of product (studio presentations and screenings) meant to be shown on the big screen and only in your theaters. From the mega-budgeted tentpoles to the mid-size thrillers to the smaller, more relatively unknown, waiting to be discovered titles that need a little nurturing and discovery, we are gathered here in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace to do what we do best in celebrating the moviegoing experience. To our studio partners, equipment and concessions companies who support the trade show, members of the press, our NATO exhibitor members, and everyone else who is on hand this week, our sincerest thanks and gratitude. As always, thank you for putting your faith in us. The CinemaCon schedule has been designed to keep you busy all day long. Some highlights this year include our International Day component of the show; our opening night party which returns to the excitement of Omnia; a Tuesday evening poolside reception themed to the summer films of 2023, the all-important trade show and demonstration suites; studio presentations and screenings from Focus Features, Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures, and yet another outdoor party on Wednesday evening themed to MITCH NEUHAUSER Managing Director, CinemaCon WELCOME TO CINEMACON 2023(Mitch Neuhauser Continued) Paramount Pictures “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”. And if that’s not enough, special honors will be bestowed this week on iconic filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas. Our week concludes on Thursday evening in grand style with our “Big Screen Achievement Award” ceremony followed by a special final night party, all courtesy of The Coca-Cola Company, our Official Presenting Sponsor. For all they continue to do here at CinemaCon and throughout the industry, you couldn’t ask for a better partner. Thanks so much to Katherine Twells, Michael Young, Josh Nations, Mayson Spellman and Erin Allen and the entire team at The Coca-Cola Company. I would also like to congratulate both The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Pictures on celebrating their respective 100th Anniversaries. Thanks for providing our theaters and moviegoers worldwide with the very best in filmed entertainment. I’m delighted to announce two new and exciting initiatives designed to improve your CinemaCon experience. First, our badge credentials have been reimagined. All registered delegates will receive a personalized laminated badge to be worn all week. Simply show this badge to gain entrance into your respective CinemaCon scheduled events. And second, in concert with the new badge initiative, we are going pretty much paperless. In order to access the official and detailed Schedule of Events, you will need to download the CinemaCon App. Everything you need to know about CinemaCon 2023 can be found on this year’s app, designed as a helpful tool and one that can keep you running on time as you go from meeting to meeting and event to event. Thanks to our official mobile app sponsor, The Boxoffice Company. The objective of CinemaCon continues to be a simple one – to provide the entire industry with a forum that is all about exhibition, distribution, the movies of the future, technology that continues to break new ground from both a filmmaking and exhibition standpoint (courtesy of our partners at the ICTA), and, of course, those delectable new treats and concessions we take with us to our seats as the lights are about to dim (courtesy of our partners at NAC). In giving thanks and recognition, we would also like to single out the continued support we receive from Christie, Cinionic, Dolby, Harkness Screens and Q-Sys as it concerns the presentation in The Colosseum. The success of CinemaCon is thanks to an abundance of support and a unique collaboration between so many companies and individuals. As always, the health, safety and welfare of our attendees is a priority, which brings us to our security measures. When you enter The Colosseum there will be a designated entrance for large bags and back packs (including the official CinemaCon Goody Bag). If possible, simply leave large bags in your hotel room as that will make entry to events much easier. We will be moderating the flow of entry into The Colosseum and have added additional security throughout the venue. When the lights go down we will be working behind the scenes to make sure we provide as safe an environment as possible. As always, I would like to thank the NATO Conventions Committee including John Curry, Gregory Quinn, Nikkole Denson-Randolph, Miguel Rivera, Sabrina Starr and Racheal Wilson, our Vice Chair Bob Bagby, and our Chair Steve Zuehlke. Their insight and guidance over the course of the year, along with the entire NATO organization, have proved invaluable. Lastly, I would like to thank my incomparable Team CinemaCon who work tirelessly for you and the entire industry in making sure CinemaCon is the best it can be - Matt Pollock, Matt Shapiro, and Cynthia Schuler. Have a great week and if there is anything we can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please let us know.Next >
