And while it may not have been exactly yesterday, it was only eight months ago, so, in the immortal words of Yogi Berra, “it’s déjà vu all over again”. And come to think of it, two shows in eight months, after not having one in more than two years, is fantastic news. It means the world and our industry are regaining its footing and retaking its place in society as one of the most life affirming, powerful, and important forms of entertainment imaginable. We are back in business in a big way. Leave your cares at the door, grab some popcorn, candy, and soda and let our theaters and the magic of the movies do the rest. It’s time for CinemaCon 2022, our time to celebrate the joys of going to the movies. For those of you with us in August, a quick welcome back and thank you for putting your faith in us. To our studio partners, equipment and concessions companies who supported the trade show, members of the press, our NATO exhibitor members, and everyone else who attended in 2021, our sincerest thanks and gratitude. August’s was an important show for all of us and you helped us exceed our expectations. And for those who were unable to attend and who we last saw back in 2019, a great BIG welcome back to you. It’s great to have everyone back where they belong, here at CinemaCon. As always, over the course of the next four days you are going to see an impressive and varied array of product (studio presentations and screenings) meant to be shown on the big screen and only in your theaters. From the mega-budgeted tentpoles to the mid-size thrillers to the smaller, more relatively unknown, waiting to be discovered titles that need a little nurturing and discovery, we are gathered here in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace to do what we do best in celebrating the moviegoing experience. As always, the CinemaCon schedule has been designed to keep you busy from morning until night. Some highlights for this year include the return of our International Day component of the show; our opening night Poolside Party; a Tuesday evening shindig themed to the summer films of 2022, the all-important trade show and demonstration suites; studio presentations and screenings from Focus Features, Lionsgate, NEON, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.; and a special breakfast program on Wednesday morning serving as NATO’s official introduction of the new and important initiative – The NATO Cinema Foundation. Everything concludes in grand style on Thursday evening with a special final night party, all courtesy of The Coca-Cola Company, our Official Presenting Sponsor. For all they continue to do here at CinemaCon and throughout the industry, you couldn’t ask for a better partner. Thanks so much to Katherine Twells, Josh Nations, Michael Young, Erin Allen, Mayson Spellman and the entire team at The Coca-Cola Company. New to CinemaCon this year are two initiatives we are very excited about. The first is the debut of our CinemaCon Store. Located on the Promenade Level (at the top of the escalators), make sure to drop by and browse from an array of fun CinemaCon branded products. We hope you came with space in your luggage! And second, the introduction of a new annual program that has taken on a life of its own and is going to become a fun staple of the show, that being the Official Poster of CinemaCon contest. MITCH NEUHAUSER Managing Director, CinemaCon WELCOME TO CINEMACON 2022( Mitch Neuhauser Continued) We reached out to members of NATO’s Advisory Board, looking to tap into the creative minds of their employees asking them to design an official poster for the show. We will be announcing the winner on Monday evening as part of the Opening Night events. The objective of CinemaCon continues to be a simple one – to provide the entire industry with a forum that is all about exhibition, distribution, the movies of the future, technology that continues to break new ground from both a filmmaking and exhibition standpoint (courtesy of our partners at the ICTA), and, of course, those delectable new treats and concessions we take with us to our seats as the lights are about to dim (courtesy of our partners at NAC). In giving thanks and recognition, we would also like to single out the continued support we receive from Christie, Cinionic, Dolby, Harkness Screens and QSC as it concerns the presentation in The Colosseum. The success of CinemaCon is thanks to an abundance of support and a unique collaboration between so many companies and individuals. The CinemaCon team tips its hat to each and every one of them. As always, the health, safety and welfare of our attendees is a priority, which brings us to our security measures. When you enter The Colosseum there will be a designated entrance for large bags and back packs (including the official CinemaCon Goody Bag). If possible, simply leave large bags in your hotel room as that will make entry to events much easier. We will be moderating the flow of entry into The Colosseum and have added additional security throughout the venue. When the lights go down we will be working behind the scenes to make sure we provide as safe an environment as possible. Additionally, please make sure to download the updated CinemaCon App, designed as a helpful tool to be used throughout the week and one that can keep you running on time as you go from meeting to meeting and event to event. Thanks to our official mobile app sponsor, The Boxoffice Company. As always, I would like to thank the NATO Conventions Committee including John Curry, John McDonald, Miguel Rivera, Sabrina Starr and Racheal Wilson, our Vice Chairman Bob Bagby, and our Chairman Steve Zuehlke. Their insight and guidance over the course of the year, along with the entire NATO organization, have proved invaluable. Lastly, I would like to thank my incomparable Team CinemaCon who work tirelessly for you and the entire industry in making sure CinemaCon is the best it can be - Matt Pollock, Matt Shapiro, and Cynthia Schuler. Have a great week and if there is anything we can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please let us know.Next >
